Initially admitted to the Bar in 1993, Janet is permitted to practice law in New York State and the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Janet participates in a number of professional associations outside of the firm, servings as a member of the New York State Bar Association, Suffolk County Bar Association and the Surrogateβs Court, Elder Law and Estate Planning committees of Suffolk County Bar Association. She also volunteers her time to the Suffolk County Pro Bono Project, a pro bono program designed to expand access to the legal system for Suffolk County residents in need.
Born in Huntington, New York, Janet attended the University of Florida on a full gymnastic scholarship before receiving her undergraduate degree in Nutrition from the State University College at Oneonta, New York in 1983. After completing an internship at Yale University Hospital and practicing as a Registered Dietician for several years, Janet received her Juris Doctorate from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1992, graduating magna cum laude. She was also a member of the Law Review and a Deanβs Fellow, receiving numerous awards for academic excellence. Janet joined the Winkler Kurtz, LLP team in 1998.
Janet has three grown sons and lives in Saint James with her husband of 30 years and their Siberian Husky, βDempsey.β Janet is an active member of her local Parish where she is a member of the RCIA team, helping to guide individuals who have chosen to join the Catholic faith as adults.
